We attended an unusual birthday party last Saturday. The
birthday girl, my 12 year old niece, is very interested in Emergency related
professions. They live across the street from a fire station, and decided that
a tour of the station would be a great birthday party.
It was so much fun!! About
15 of us (adults and children) walked to the station and the firefighters took
time to show us every detail of the trucks. They discussed their training,
explained how and when tools would be used, and patiently answered a slew of
questions. We left with a sincere appreciation for these men and the work they
do.
I did not know that individuals or families could get a tour
of their local fire station. My sister just took a chance and called to ask. I
highly recommend getting a few friends or family together and visiting your
local station. Let them know you appreciate their service! We signed a card for
them and took a cake over – I bet your firemen wouldn’t mind a little token
like that either!
